The Skeletal Age of the Elbow Joint of Sixteen-year-old Korean Children

Abstract
Roentgenological evaluation was done of the maturity state of the ossification centers of the elbow joint in 16-year-old normal Korean children, 60 boys and 60 girls respectively. The skeletal scoring system was adopted in classifying the various maturing phase of the epiphyses.
The comparative study of each score was done, with the following result.
1. The appearance rate of the 6 epiphyses was 100% in both 16-year-old boys and girls.
2. The skeletal score of the radial head was 8.23¡¾0.72 for boys and 9 for girls, that of the olecranon was 4.63¡¾0.50 for boys and 5 for girls, that of the capitellum 9 for boys and girls, that of the medial epicondyle 6.27¡¾0.71 for boys 7 for girls, that of the lateral epicondyle 3.92¡¾0.28 for boys 4 for girls, and that of the trochlea 4 for boys and girls. Those scores were consistently higher in girls than in boys.
3. Total skeletal maturity score was 36.05 for boys 38 for girls, that of the girls being 1.95 higher than that of boys.
4. Total skeletal score in the 16-year-old children showed higher value by 6.18 for boys 3.68 for girls, compared with that of the 14-year-old one.
This study may be valuable in that it has provided a standard for evaluating the skeletal maturity of the 16-year-old normal Korean children.
